Lorenzo accepts Bautista apology
Factory Yamaha star Lorenzo was taken out by Bautista at the first corner, opening the door for MotoGP title rival Casey Stoner to join the Spaniard at the top of the standings after he took full advantage by claiming all 25 points.
A fuming Lorenzo blasted Bautista in the aftermath of the race, claiming he made a 'crazy' move and slammed his punishment as 'inadequate' after it transpired the Gresini Honda rider will be forced to start this weekend's German MotoGP at the Sachsenring from the back of the grid.
"Alvaro's move was crazy,” said Lorenzo afterwards. “I met him after the incident, he apologised and we shook hands but in my opinion this is not enough to justify the accident.
“When I made a mistake in Japan in 2005 I was penalised with a race [ban]. Race Direction told me that he will start from last position on the grid in Sachsenring but this is nothing.
“We hope that we will be lucky in the future that nothing will happen, but if the riders are not penalised properly then they will continue to do crazy things."
However, MotoGP.com is reporting that Lorenzo conceded he may have been 'too outspoken' after the incident and that he now 'firmly accepts' Bautista's apology.
Lorenzo was understood to be in considerable discomfort on Sunday after sustaining a heavily sprained right ankle, but has been passed fit for this weekend's race.
MotoGP.com claims Lorenzo was told by doctors he was 'lucky not to have broken his ankle' – an injury that would have ruled him out of the next two rounds of the championship at least.
Lorenzo was leading the series by 25 points before the crash, but its now tied with reigning champion Stoner on 140 points following the Aussie's Assen triumph.
