Laverty: My expectations were higher

Eugene Laverty says higher temperatures come race day at Miller Motorsports Park were the contributory factor for him failing to challenge for the podium in the United States.

Keen to bounce back from a disappointing weekend at Donington Park, the Irishman had looked in good shape during the free practice sessions, even if technical issues scuppered his chances of qualifying any higher than eighth position.

However, Laverty says the increase in temperatures played havoc with the set-up of his Aprilia RSV4, ultimately preventing him from getting beyond the chasing pack in either race, much to his frustration.

“It was not a good day for me. To be honest my expectations were much higher. After the test session all the conditions were there to aim for the podium.

“Unfortunately in the higher temperatures I wasn't able to find the right feeling with my RSV4, which is not an uncommon problem when you're riding a new bike. In any case, points are important, especially since I'm continuing to learn and this will be helpful for the races to come.”

Laverty remains eighth in the overall standings, nine points behind seventh place rider Sylvain Guintoli.
