Newly-crowned double MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo is to race against the likes of F1 stars Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel in the end of year 'Race Of Champions'.

The Race of Champions brings together some of the world's biggest motorsport stars - from disciplines that include Formula 1, MotoGP, WRC, Touring Cars, Le Mans, Indycar and the X-Games - for a head-to-head battle in identical four-wheel machinery.

Lorenzo will race a field including F1 champions Schumacher and Vettel, plus 13-time F1 race winner David Coulthard and 500GP legend Mick Doohan. Lorenzo will also carry out a demonstration run on a Yamaha bike.

“2012 has been a fantastic year for me and I can't think of a better way to finish it off than by taking on the world's best drivers at the Race Of Champions,” said Lorenzo.

“It will be a pleasure to share such a fantastic race with some of the best drivers in the world. It will clearly be a challenge to take them on at their own game but I'll do my best to get the most out of the extra pair of wheels.

“With Mick Doohan in the field, we will both be aiming to show we can do very well on four wheels too. I hope the public enjoy it and have fun with all of us!"

Other competitors confirmed fpr 2012 include Indycar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay and multiple Australian V8 Supercar champion Jamie Whincup.

This year's event will be held in Bangkok, Thailand on December 14-16.
