A year on from Marco Simoncelli's tragic death in the Malaysian Grand Prix, MotoGP riders and team members will gather at turn 11 to pay tribute to his memory.

The tragic incident occurred in only the second lap of the race on 23rd October last year, when the 24-year-old Italian lost control of his bike and slid beneath the wheels of Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.

Razlan Razali, Sepang International Circuit (SIC) CEO said: 'A bronze plaque will be installed at turn 11 in remembrance of Simoncelli.'

He also revealed that a 'Marco Simoncelli rookie of the year' trophy would be unveiled on the Saturday of the Malaysian Grand Prix, to be awarded by SIC to the best MotoGP newcomer at the season finale in Valencia.

Simoncelli was considered a prodigous talent and had scored his highest ever Grand Prix win of second just a week before his death, in only his second year at top level.
