Lorenzo unfazed by mixed weather at Sepang

A relaxed Jorge Lorenzo took the mixed weather conditions at Sepang in his stride as the Factory Yamaha rider commenced his preparations for the Malaysian MotoGP.

Lorenzo, who finished as the runner-up to chief title challenger Dani Pedrosa for the second race in succession at Motegi last weekend, made a solid start in free practice as he posted the third fastest time.

The former MotoGP world champion ended FP1 0.3s behind Pedrosa, whose Repsol Honda team-mate, Casey Stoner, was second fastest as he continues to improve following his comeback from injury at Motegi.

Lorenzo, who saw his lead at the top of the championship cut to 28 points by Pedrosa last time out with three rounds remaining, intends to focus on the acceleration of his YZR-M1 during final practice and qualifying tomorrow.

He completed a single lap in the afternoon session before pulling in due to the inconsistent wet and try track surface.

“This morning was great, from the beginning I was competitive and more or less at the same pace as Dani and Casey,” said Lorenzo.

“Casey especially is much stronger than he was in Japan. This afternoon unfortunately we couldn't practice because of the weather.

“We need to improve the behaviour of the bike in acceleration for tomorrow, it's a little nervous so we need to make it a little easier.”
