Lorenzo: I can fight Hondas for victory

MotoGP title leader Jorge Lorenzo is confident he can fight for victory in Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix, after finishing a close second to championship rival Dani Pedrosa in Friday practice.

Lorenzo led the morning session from start to finish before exchanging the lead of FP2 with Pedrosa, who eventually got the edge by just 0.102s.

“We started in a very good way here, much better than in Aragon where we had issues with the life of the rear tyre,” said Yamaha star Lorenzo. “We have a very good pace and with a little change in the electronics were able to go a bit faster.

“We tried with the hard tyre, for me it's not better than the soft although we can go fast on it. For tomorrow I think the soft one will be better. The Hondas are very good here but our bike is also so I think we can fight with them for the victory.”

Andrea Dovizioso underlined the M1's Motegi potential with third place, just 0.194s from Pedrosa.

Lorenzo holds a 33-point lead over Pedrosa with four rounds to go.
