Spies: Fingers crossed…

Monday, September 10, 2012
After a catalogue of race day problems, Ben Spies will be hoping that this weekend's round 13 proves to be a lucky number.

The outgoing Factory Yamaha rider, who looks set to ride a satellite Ducati next season, has failed to even finish the last three events and is languishing tenth in the championship standings.

Few would have believed that Ben Spies would be without a podium after twelve rounds and the Texan has his fingers crossed for a trouble free weekend as he seeks to beat a season-best fourth place.

Spies has finished sixth on his two previous Misano MotoGP appearances, venue for this weekend's San Marino Grand Prix, but was a winner at the track in World Superbike.

“Misano is a track I really enjoy riding, I've had some great races here. I think if we'd had a couple more laps last year then I could have maybe been past Andrea [Dovizioso] and Marco [Simoncelli],” said Spies.

“It's been an unbelievable year but we'll give it 100% as always this weekend and fingers crossed it'll be trouble free and we can show our true potential.”
