Lorenzo praises Rossi performance

Valentino Rossi's former and future team-mate Jorge Lorenzo has praised the Ducati rider's runner-up finish in Sunday's Misano race.

Lorenzo took a big step towards his second MotoGP title after claiming his sixth victory of the season, on a day when Dani Pedrosa crashed out, with Rossi 4.4s behind to equal his best finish on the Desmosedici.

“Valentino, to be honest, has been very brave today,” said Lorenzo. “He rode in a very good way. To only finish four-seconds behind me with the Ducati is a good race.

“Especially in the middle of the race, he was catching me by a few tenths and so I had to push a little more.”

Misano marked Rossi's third podium since the seven time MotoGP champion joining Ducati at the start of last year.

Lorenzo and Rossi had a frosty relationship as team-mates from 2008-2010, but both have signed with Yamaha for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Lorenzo, the 2010 world champion, is now 38 points clear of Honda rider Pedrosa with five rounds of this season remaining.
