Casey Stoner returns home after surgery
The surgery went as planned and the Repsol Honda rider was able to return home, however no information was given regarding a likely recovery time.
A statement from HRC read: "Today in Australia, Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner received surgery to his ankle, which was damaged after his crash in qualifying for the Indianapolis GP 12 days ago.
"The procedure was performed by Dr. Lam's team in Sydney's North Shore Private Hospital. Doctors are pleased with how the operation went, and now must wait during this initial recuperation period to see how the ankle is healing.
"With no complications or need for Casey to stay in hospital, he has returned home and HRC will endeavour to share information on Casey's recovery as it is known."
Stoner suffered fractures to his right ankle and severe ligament damage during a massive qualifying highside, but still finished fourth in the race, before being advised to undergo surgery on the eve of last weekend's Brno round.
Before leaving for Australia, Stoner - who will retire at the end of this season - said that he hoped to return 'a race or two' before his home Phillip Island round on October 26-28.
Stoner is third in the world championship. His injury has reduced the 2012 title fight to an all-Spanish battle between Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo and Stoner's team-mate Dani Pedrosa.
World Superbike star Jonathan Rea is ready to replace Stoner at the forthcoming Misano and Aragon rounds, in September.
UPDATE: A post-surgery message posted by Stoner on his official Twitter page (@Official_CS27) reads: "Operation went as well as can be expected, all the staff were great also. Now we just have to wait and see how I recover."
