Rossi competitive in wet, off pace in dry at Sachsenring

Valentino Rossi is one rider who won't mind if Sunday's eighth round of the MotoGP World Championship at the Sachsenring in Germany is held in the wet.

The factory Ducati star was 11th in the dry morning session on day one, but jumped up the leaderboard when the rain fell in the afternoon to fifth place, just three tenths of a second behind Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa.

“We still have some things to resolve for our dry set-up, but we're fast in the wet: fifth, but three tenths from the top,” said Rossi.

“We know that we're competitive in those conditions. This morning I tried doing some consecutive laps with the hard tyre to try to understand which tyre to use on Sunday.

“It will be a difficult choice because the soft is a bit faster in the beginning, but then it becomes difficult to manage, while the hard is a bit slower but is more consistent.

“As far as the set-up is concerned, we must improve mainly in the second and third sectors, so we hope the weather will be more stable tomorrow.”

Rossi's time in the dry session was over a second adrift of Pedrosa.
