Moto2: 'Small Chance' Marquez Will Miss Qatar

Moto2 World Championship runner-up Marc Marquez has revealed there is a 'small chance' he could miss the opening round of 2012.

The Repsol Suter star, who won seven races during his rookie campaign, has not ridden a Moto2 bike since suffering eye problems following a practice fall on an unmarked section of wet track at the penultimate 2011 round in Malaysia.

Marquez subsequently underwent surgery to cure double vision problems and, although back on a motocross bike, has now missed two of the three 2012 pre-season tests. The final test will be held at Jerez from March 19-21, with the season-opening round race in Qatar on April 8.

"After surgery I noticed the progress. I have no double vision problems, but still lack some focus when looking up... I hope to return to action as soon as possible," Spain's mundodeportivo.com quotes the former 125cc world champion as saying.

On the specific question of Qatar, he added: "There is a small chance of not going... It's an injury that needs time, a nerve is not like a bone."

Marquez said that his team is planning private test sessions to make up for the lost track time, once the 19-year-old is ready to return.
