Sometimes, we wake up on any given day with a sudden urge to part ways with as much of our disposable income as we could. Don’t deny it; you’ve probably been in that same boat at one point or another.

So suppose that day suddenly comes and you just had a dream of riding along the highway with a sportsbike, we suggest that you turn that dream into a reality and cash in on a Yamaha YZF-R6.

Yamaha is touting the bike as most ’exciting bike to ride on the track and the most fun sport bike to ride on winding roads.’ That alone should say something about the YZF-R6. Add that to the fact that Yamaha engineers tweaked the mid range performance last year and you have a bike that’s oozing in confidence, agility, performance, and, most importantly, fun.

The YZF-R6 showcases the latest in Yamaha’s sport bike technologies, including a screaming, 15,000-rpm plus fuel injected four cylinder engine in a taut chassis that lets it snap from upright to full lean instantly.

Find out more about the Yamaha YZF-R6 after the jump.

Design
In terms of design, the Yamaha YZF-R6 holds a back seat to no one - literally. The rider and passenger seats are separate with a rear seat cowl that is available as an added option. The bike carries dual 55 watt H7 "cat eye" headlights that not only cast a bright beam of light, but also feature a sleek profile for superb aerodynamics while a single lens LED taillight provides excellent visibility, extended service life, and uses less power than conventional bulbs

Compact race inspired multi-function digital and analog instrumentation with adjustable back lighting are also part of the package with plenty of features present in the whole set-up, including an analog tach, digital speedometer, dual tripmeters, low fuel warning light, fuel tripmeter, and clock. There is also a programmable shift light and stop watch/lap timer that is controlled by the LHS handlebar mounted switch gear.

Engine
An ultra-compact, lightweight, short stroke, 600cc, DOHC, 16-valve, liquid-cooled, in-line four-cylinder with lightweight titanium valves powers the Yamaha YZF-R6, producing the kind of incredible horsepower that’s evidenced by the bike’s amazing 16,00-rpm redline. The bike is also considered the most advanced production 600cc motorcycle Yamaha—or anybody else—has ever built, thanks to a new fly-by-wire throttle system that enjoys flawless response under all conditions. Yamaha also included fuel injection mapping for the Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle dual-injector system which complements the high compression ratio for great throttle response and reduced engine braking. This system also uses a powerful ECU and multiple sensors to provide perfect, smooth engine response and optimal power whenever the throttle is twisted under all conditions. Meanwhile, a GP-style titanium muffler contributes to mass centralization and contains EXUP for a broader powerband, and 02 sensor for spot-on injection and emissions compliance. The bike also has linerless, direct-plated ceramic-composite cylinder bores providing greater heat dissipation for consistent power delivery and reduced friction.

Chassis and Suspension
A Deltabox aluminum frame incorporates GP thinking for the YZF-R6, improving engine positioning and rigidity for the ultimate in 600-class handling. A lightweight swingarm pivots high in the frame, increasing the bike’s anti-squat effect and mid-corner stability. TZ-type chain adjusters ease rear tire changes. A four-way adjustable inverted fork with 41mm tubes has also been set up, increasing freedom of use for street or track purposes. As far as brakes are concerned, the YZF-R6 comes with dual 310mm front disc brakes that use forged one-piece radial-mount calipers and a radial-pump front master cylinder with adjustable lever for astounding braking power and feel. Then there’s a removable rear shock spacer and adjustable fork ride height that allows the rider to tailor the ride position for the best fit and comfort.
