Phillip Island Accommodation - Victoria Australia Holiday Delight

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

If you need Phillip Island accommodation, then we've got a selection of spectacular luxury places for you to consider.

One and a half hours from Melbourne, Philip Island offers some of the best natural attractions in Australia and is renowned for its beauty, tranquillity and wildlife. Phillip island currently sees about 1.5 million visitors each year, which makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia.

Every evening at sunset, the cute little Fairy Penguins return to Summerland Beach and waddle up to their burrows. Their ancestors have done the same for thousands of generations, and it's an incredible sight, every time you see it.

More than 250 species of birds make Phillip Island their home, and the mutton birds and penguins both also use the island as a summer breeding ground. At the Koala Conservation Centre you can walk along the treetop broadwalk and be close to the koalas - fantastic viewing and photographic opportunities.

Phillip Island has grown and prospered since it was first discovered by George Bass in 1798. The Little Penguins (or fairy penguins as they are more commonly known) who are native to Phillip Island attract many thousands of tourists to watch their nightly return from the sea.

It was also famous as the home of the Australian Grand Prix for cars in 1928 and later the place where the Armstrong 500, the forerunner to the Bathurst 1000 would be held. Nowadays, the Moto GP (Grand Prix), V8 Supercars and World Superbikes events are seen at Phillip Island.

Phillip Island has approximately 7,000 permanent residents, with Cowes being the main town on the island. Cowes has a large number of retail shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and take away food outlets.

With all the tourist attractions on the Island, there is a ready supply of luxury accommodation, including bed and breakfasts, guest houses and self contained apartments and retreats.

Some of the places you should check out include: The Black Dolphin - a private and romantic penthouse retreat on the beautiful Cape Woolamai, or Abaleigh, a small luxurious B&B directly on the water's edge, just around the corner from Cowes.

If you are a couple, you might like to check out Hill of Content in Rhyll - it offers spacious, extravagantly luxurious accommodation for you and your partner, in a tranquil seaside setting less than two hours from Melbourne.

One other accommodation spot we recommend you check out is Cliff Top - an elegant, spacious, airy and contemporary guest house with lofty cathedral ceilings. Set on 3 secluded hectares of private estate overlooking Smiths Beach and Bass Strait, it's a gem for those looking for a beachfront property to relax and enjoy mother nature.
